Oops! Justin Trudeau did it again

They’re billing it as an “affordability budget.” But with the latest bloated federal Liberal budget unveiled, the schoolyard expression “liar, liar, pants on fire” comes to mind.

When Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau was campaigning in 2015, the member of Parliament for Montreal, Quebec’s Papineau riding made a solemn vow to Canadians.

While then-prime minister Stephen Harper promised Conservatives would have a balanced budget, Trudeau swore Liberals would run “tiny, modest” deficits of less than $10 billion for three years. He’d then balance the budget by 2019-2020, Trudeau promised.
Like so many of his promises, Trudeau reneged on that. He lied. (As it turns out, budgets don’t balance themselves.)

And the latest Liberal budget has blown to smithereens any promised to rein in spending. Liberals will run a whopping deficit of nearly $40 billion for this fiscal year.
You don’t need a degree in economics to know that continued, excessive government spending is fuelling inflation, making everything we need to buy — gas, groceries, consumer goods etc. — more expensive.

It’s much like continuing to rack up spending on your credit card and not even being able to pay the minimum balance. We all know how that will end. Badly.
This Beluga-like budget will see Trudeau’s government spend a head-spinning $480 billion in a single year. It including details on almost $52 billion in new spending.

Trudeau’s spending orgy is even getting heat from Liberals. Former Liberal Governor of the Bank of Canada David Dodge said he believes that this budget will be the worst since 1982.
And here’s a sobering fact: This year, Canada will spend $54.1 billion to service Trudeau’s debt. This is more money than the government is sending the provinces for health care.

Laughably, Trudeau’s Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland says her government is taking measures to cut back on spending.
Here’s one way Liberals boast they’ll do that. Canada’s 368,000 civil servant workforce will be trimmed by 5,000 members.
But wait for it … That will happen over the next four years … By attrition.
In other words, if someone retires or quits, they won’t be replaced. Wow. What restraint.

Because socialists love to tax us, there’s also $20 billion in new taxes detailed in this budget.
A Financial Post columnist summed up the budget this way:
“In what it bills as an ‘affordability budget,’ the federal government is spending oodles of money on housing, dental care, school lunches, pharmacare, Indigenous support, green subsidies and, of course, consultants’ fees and a padded public service.

“To finance all the new spending, it will issue still more bonds, which will push up interest rates even as the Bank of Canada tries to bring them down. Higher corporate and capital gains taxes will discourage the supply of goods and services to the market whether in housing starts or in food.

“Instead of improving affordability, the fiscal plan will impair it.”
Isn’t that just like the Liberals? Another promise made — and another promise broken — in one fell swoop.

Liar, liar pants on fire, indeed.

Nobody wants to see the NDP defeated in the federal riding of Edmonton Griesbach more than me.

If I’m to be the Conservative candidate in Edmonton Griesbach I must ensure I’ve got the most Conservative Party of Canada members supporting me. Even though I was an MP before, there will be a nomination election to choose the Conservative candidate for the next federal election.

Let’s oust Team Justin/Jagmeet from Edmonton Griesbach

Justin Trudeau and Jagmeet Singh are out to destroy this country.

And the recent backroom deal between them shows they’re in lockstep to do just that.

These two are truly Toxic Twins whose out-of-control spending policies and far-left agenda will leave all Canadians poorer at a time when the country is already reeling after enduring the worst of the COVID pandemic.

They’re toxic to our pocket books. Toxic to our lifeblood energy industry. Toxic to our children’s future.

Remember. This past September the Liberals didn’t win enough seats to form a majority government.

Canadians didn’t give them that because we don’t trust Trudeau’s Liberals or Singh’s NDP.

So these two had to resort to a slimy, behind-closed-doors backroom deal to essentially achieve a majority government Canadians didn’t want.

My friend and former colleague Pierre Poilievre summarized it well, by saying this devious Justin-Jagmeet pact means we now essentially have Canada’s first NDP federal government.

We’re already deep in the hole with runaway federal spending.

Right now the national debt is almost $1.2 trillion dollars and it’s increasing by $400 million a day and a head-spinning $4,500 per second! That’s what’s fuelling inflation we see at the pumps and at the grocery store checkouts.

Now the Justin-Jagmeet juggernaut want to spend even more money that we don’t have.

You know new and increased taxes are coming down the pipe soon.

They’ll make everything we have to purchase even more expensive than things are already.

Have you seen the price of groceries? Building materials? Gas?

The Toxic Twins of runaway spending say they’re going to support one another until 2025 — three long years.

But anything can happen in politics. So we have to be ready in a heart-beat just in case the deal between this terrible twosome crumbles.

Canadians want a common-sense, fiscally accountable government that cares about you and your family — that works to bolster the economy (let’s get some pipelines built) while reining in runaway spending so you’ll have more money in your pocket.

I’m committed to running again in Edmonton Griesbach, so we can win back that seat from Singh’s NDP. People in the riding didn’t vote for a majority NDP government and I know the majority aren’t  pleased with this despicable Justin-Jagmeet pact.

You know our national Conservative party is holding a leadership race and that alone will help grow our membership and reinvigorate people. It will also help highlight that Conservatives are ready to defeat this terrible coalition and form government.

I’m on Pierre Poilievre’s team. He’s already shown he’s a leader. He’s intelligent, hard-working and he strikes fear into the heart of Justin Trudeau and his Liberals.

Together we can defeat these Toxic Twins — and return Canada to prosperity.

Let’s celebrate Canada

Canada is our home and I’m proud to call myself Canadian. 

We’re consistently listed as one of the best countries in the world to live in.

Canadians are renowned for our friendliness. 

We have a history of defending world peace and fighting for justice. Whether in the First World War, Second World War or the Cold War, Canada stood on guard for thee.

There is much to celebrate this Canada Day.

As we celebrate let’s also remember where we have failed to live up to the principles we hold dear.

Residential schools, stand out as the worst failing in Canadian history. What occurred in those schools was wrong.

We need to continue to work with Indigenous Canadians to reconcile and foster a relationship of co-operation and partnership within Canada.   

Canada isn’t a perfect country — no country is perfect.

Let’s continue working together in strengthening Canada — for all Canadians — not tearing it down.

Remembering Edmonton Police Service Const. Ezio Faraone

I was honoured to attend a memorial to mark the anniversary of the tragic death in the line of duty of Edmonton Police Service Const. Ezio Faraone.

Ezio was 33 years old when he was killed June 25, 1990, responding to an armed robbery. Both of the men involved in his murder were sent to prison.

Let’s remember Ezio and all police officers who died in the line of duty.
