International Holocaust Remembrance Day

Today is the International Holocaust Remembrance Day and marks 75 years since the liberation of Auschwitz.

Between 1940 and 1945 more than a million people were deported to Auschwitz, almost all of whom were murdered by the Nazis as part of their systemic attempt to destroy the Jewish people.

In total the holocaust claimed the lives of more than six million Jews and other peoples.

Today, as anti-Semitic attacks continue and appallingly increase, we must never forget the horrors of the holocaust.

Never again.

Holodomor Memorial Day

Today is Holodomor Memorial Day.

A day to remember the up to 10 million Ukrainians who starved to death during Communist Leader Joseph Stalin’s deliberate plan to systematically destroy the Ukrainian nation.

Between 1932 and 1933, the Soviet state launched a campaign of terror on Ukraine. They forcibly confiscated food, seized farms and brutalized the Ukrainian people with mass arrests, deportations and executions.

Yet, the Soviet state was unable to destroy the Ukrainian nation.

Despite continued threats from Russia, Ukraine remains free and independent.

Productive meeting with Athlone Community League about CN Yard noise.

I had a productive meeting today with Athlone Community League members who feel noise and pollution from neighbouring CN Yard have become more of an issue in the past two years. I’m glad to help them as they seek answers.
