In the spirit of giving, I decided to try a new take on the old jingle bells tune. I wanted to give the Liberals a figurative lump of coal for a few of the ways that they’ve been naughty this year.

The Liberal government’s plan to rehabilitate ISIS fighters who return to Canada is misguided and points to their perverse priorities.

Our former Conservative government took strong action to combat terrorism and keep Canadians safe. It’s troubling that Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s Liberal government doesn’t share the same priorities.

The so-called rights of terrorists should never be placed above the rights and security of law-abiding Canadian citizens.

An ISIS fighter should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law if they return to Canada.

That’s why Conservatives put forward the following motion in the House of Commons:

That the House:
(a) condemn the horrific acts committed by ISIS;
(b) acknowledge that individuals who joined ISIS fighters are complicit in these horrific acts and pose a danger to Canadians;
(c) call on the government to bring to justice and prosecute any ISIS fighter returning to Canada; and insist that the government make the security and protection of Canadians its priority, rather than the reintegration of ISIS fighters, or the unnecessary financial payout to a convicted terrorist, like Omar Khadr.

Shamefully, Liberals voted against our motion.

What’s worse, Liberals are offering ISIS fighters taxpayer-funded reintegration training. Meanwhile, they are clawing back on the benefits and allowances available to Canadian Armed Forces members who are injured in the line of duty.

Conservative have called – and will continue to call – on the Liberal government to enforce measures that hold terrorists accountable for their crimes and to take strong action to keep law-abiding Canadian citizens safe.

An ISIS fighter should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law if they return to Canada, not offered taxpayer-funded reintegration training.

The Liberal government needs to stop and listen to the scientists, doctors, and law enforcement officials who are telling them that their plan to legalize marijuana is being rushed through without proper consideration of the negative impact of such complicated legislation.

Justin Trudeau’s government is rushing to legalize the recreational use of marijuana without proper planning or consideration of the negative ramifications of their legislation.

It’s very concerning that it doesn’t keep marijuana out of the hands of children. 

This year we’ve marked some important milestones in our shared history.  In August we honoured the 75^th anniversary of Dieppe.  In April we commemorated the 100^th anniversary of Vimy.  And this November we reach the 100^th anniversary of Passchendaele.

Like the brave heroes that fought in those great battles.

The men and women of the Canadian Armed Forces have never wavered in their resolve to defend our country, our values and our way of life.

The freedoms and the values that we cherish as Canadians exist because of the selfless sacrifices of Canadian Armed Forces members during times of war, conflict and peace.

Today we pay tribute to those that have sacrificed all and thank those that stand ready to do the same.

To all of Canada’s Veterans and Canadian Armed Forces members, thank you for your service. We are indebted to you.

Lest we forget.

This week is an opportunity to pay special tribute to the brave Canadian heroes who have selflessly served our country.

It’s time that Morneau stops trying to change the channel, apologizes to Canadians, and starts following the rules that apply to all Members of Parliament.
