It’s Small Business Week!

And this week, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is unveiling the details of his plan to hike taxes on local business.

Today in the House of Commons, I reminded the Liberal government that Canadian small businesses are the heartbeat of our economy, that they should be respected for the jobs and opportunities they create in our communities.

Happy Thanksgiving!

During this time of thanksgiving, join me in reflecting on the many blessings we enjoy as Canadians.

We have so much to be thankful for. I’m particularly thankful for our community of Edmonton Griesbach, a community filled with individuals who are committed to enriching the lives of those around them.

I hope that on this holiday weekend you enjoy the company of good friends and family.

Wishing you all a very…

Happy Thanksgiving!

Edmonton’s small business community is outraged with the Liberals’ unfair tax changes

Small business owners at my roundtable on the unfair tax hike in Edmonton roundly blasted the proposed Trudeau/Morneau small biz tax changes.

Our participants (including two accountants) say if the Liberal plan is carried out it will have a wide-ranging negative impact on everything from family farms, to mom and pop businesses, to the ability for Canada to retain doctors.

All these people vow to continue opposing these changes and they’re encouraging everyone they know to call, write and e-mail federal Liberal members of Parliament demanding they stop this ill-advised damaging scheme.

Please do YOUR part by speaking out loudly. Conservatives will fight this tax hike every step of the way.

Together we can make the Grits stop this insane tax-grab scheme.

Great to meet residents of the Rosslyn community

We had a lot of fun doorknocking today in the Rosslyn area of my riding of Edmonton Griesbach.

We met lots of nice folks and had great conversations.

Thanks again to all the volunteers!

Appreciative of the feedback received from Veterans and Veteran’s advocates

Thank you to everyone who participated my round table discussion on Veterans issues with Conservative Veterans Affairs critic John Brassard.

Your feedback is invaluable.

Canada’s Veterans have selflessly served our country. It’s important that when they transition to civil life they have the resources they need, when they need it.

Northlands’ Monday Morning Magic gives back to the community

By KERRY DIOTTE
Member of Parliament
Edmonton Griesbach

If you look up the definition in a dictionary of “giving back to the community” it should be accompanied by a picture of the Northlands organization beside the entry.

The not-for-profit agricultural society, located in my federal riding of Edmonton Griesbach, has been giving back to our community for longer than Edmonton has been a city.

There’s hardly a better example of the good work this organization does than Monday Morning Magic whereby children with special needs (and their friends and parents) get the run of the K-Days fair midway for free along with snacks, entertainment and more. It’s in cooperation with the rides company, North American Midway.

This year’s Monday Morning Magic was hampered by a downpour but Northlands officials and volunteers simply adapted and worked a little magic indoors where kids were treated to performances by the top dogs of Canine Stars.

There were mascots galore along with princesses, cartoon characters members of the Edmonton Eskimos football team and lots of men and women in uniform — all there to bring smiles to the faces of the excited kids on the 40th anniversary of this annual event.

A big tip of the hat to everyone who made this event a success that brought on so many smiles. A special thanks to Northlands and the volunteers who came out to help this year. They’re part of the hundreds and hundreds of loyal Northlands volunteers. I honestly don’t know what our community would do without them.

Another year, another great K-days parade!

It was a joy to be in the K-Days Parade today put on by Northlands along with my federal Conservative Party of Canada  colleagues Matt Jeneroux, Garnett Genuis and Mike Lake.

It was great to see all the friendly people who showed up to watch and wave, especially all the happy kids. It drizzled a bit but, as the cliché goes, rain failed to dampen anyone’s enthusiasm.

Thanks Northlands for another successful event!
